Tonight Mitt Romney is poised to reach a major campaign milestone: Texas will likely give him enough delegates to officially become the 2012 Republican Presidential nominee. And when Romney finally does, the man standing next to him will be none other than Donald Trump. A spokesperson says Trump will appear with Romney at a Las Vegas fundraiser and congratulate him on reaching 1,144 delegates.
What does Donald Trump do for Romney, besides help him raise money? Most notably, Trump brings what he calls the “place of birth” issue front and center. Take a listen to what Trump said as recently as this morning on CNBC (video above), questioning whether the President was born in America. In addition to saying "a lot of people are questioning [the President's] birth certificate," Trump adds "they can't find any records that [Obama's] mother was in the hospital."
This afternoon, Romney's spokesperson Andrea Saul released a statement distancing Romney from the birther movement: "Governor Romney has said repeatedly that he believes President Obama was born in the United States. The Democrats can talk about Donald Trump all they want - Mitt Romney is going to talk about jobs and how we can get our economy moving again." Yesterday, when asked about the event with Trump, Romney told the press "I don't agree with all the people who support me...But I need to get 50.1% or more and I'm appreciative to have the help of a lot of good people."
President Obama's campaign is not letting the optics go unnoticed, releasing a web video that asks why Romney won't stand up to "the voices of extremism" as John McCain did in 2008. Deputy Obama Campaign Manager Stephanie Cutter released this statement: "Mitt Romney's continued embrace of Donald Trump and refusal to condemn his disgraceful conspiracy theories demonstrates his complete lack of moral leadership."
The issue may not be whether Romney agrees or disagrees with the so-called “place of birth” debate, but rather whether he wants Trump at his side on the first night America sees him as the official “Rominee.”

What else can one expect from the propaganda network?
Congrats to Mitt on winning the GOP nomination. Only required transforming yourself (on paper at least) into a severe conservative, embracing delusional birthers, and draining enthusiasm from every Republican. A great theme for your nomination acceptance speech would be "We had to destroy the party in order to save it." For another "3 Things I've Learned from Mitt Romney," enjoy this funny YouTube video --
Why is the birth certificate even an issue. Please tell me that we do ask for proof before you can be put on the ballot. I mean it is only a constitutional requirement.
Very good point...... IT SHOULD BE REQUIRED to provide Birth Certificate and 10 years of TAX RETURNS upon registering to run for ANY position.... Plain and Simple... The BC issue should have been resolved PRIOR to the elections in 2008 ... ALSO..... in my opinion, ANY politician who registers intent of running for a DIFFERENT political office... SHOULD BE REQUIRED to RESIGN from the current position .... PERIOD!!!!!!!
WHY a Primary run off in Texas ...... the numbers 45% and 34% of a vote SHOULD NOT warrant a run off ..... That is a SIGNIFICANT win ... .Much larger than even GW BUSH had when he was handed the Presidency in 2000... THINGS ARE FIXED all around our country......????????????????????????????????????????
Its not the BC that is important.its the fact that it was never questioned of the 43 former presidents by anybody. The whole birther movement is a sham to drive home the president is black to all the rockheads out there.
Donald Trump has been smarting since the President made him look like the small little insect he is at last year's correspondence dinner. Democrats need to stop worrying about him & Romney. Who cares if it hurts Romney? Democrats need too worry about the reporters like John Heileman & unamed democrats who wants to tie the presidents hand to last election theme of hope & change while Mitt Romney continues to tell lies everytime he opens his mouth.
We have to constantly bring up the fact that the president has brought this economy back from a great recession with barely any help from the cynical republicans. We need to remind them that the republicans have been paid for 4 years to do absolutely nothing but defy this president.
I never questioned it before, because I always thought they had to show proof of birth to get on the ballot. Now I find out that may not be true. I find that hard to believe. And if you think Obama has helped us. Then you must believe F.D.R. brought us out of the depression.
