Same-sex marriage opponents are blasting Minneapolis-based retailer, Target, for selling t-shirts to raise money for “Family Equality Council,” a group working to defeat Minnesota’s gay marriage ban.
The t-shirts sell for $12.99 and come in four designs. The one pictured at right is an original design by Gwen Stefani.
Two years ago, Target upset some gay marriage supporters when it donated $150,000 to a campaign group that backed conservative GOP gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer. Emmer conceded defeat to Mark Dayton of the Democratic-Farmer Labor Party in December 2010, after the close election triggered an automatic recount.
Chuck Darrell, spokesman for Minnesota for Marriage," tells the AP his organization is not organizing any action against Target; it's simply asking supporters to donate $12.99 on its website to offset the price of the t-shirt being donated to Family Equality.
