After a rough last week, the Obama campaign had hoped to turn the narrative around yesterday. It coincided with an in-depth look at what the President's second term might look like. Then the week suddenly started off with questions no one would have anticipated. But after it appeared Commerce Sec. John Bryson was dealing with a medical issue, it was back to true campaign issues, and a new Obama TV ad that draws on the Romney record in Massachusetts. (Question: Has the Obama campaign finally decided against those questionable Bain attacks?)
Today on NOW, we'll keep our eye on the issues, but also the messaging. Chris Hayes's new book, Twilight Of The Elites: America After Meritocracy, is out today, and he'll join us on the panel to talk about America's crisis of authority and the nastiness of the modern political campaign (making a medical issue a political one with no facts hours after the news breaks being a chief example).
See you at noon ET.

Romney has 2 faces. Who is this guy. I don't think he even knows.
There are NO moderate Republicans (let alone liberal), whereas the Democratic Party consists of conservatives, moderates and liberals. Which side seems more willing to negotiate with the other? Chris Hayes clearly knows more about this issue than your other panelists, and Alex keeps interrupting him in favor of getting wrong-headed, bumper-sticker views from Carol and Patricia, who are clearly incapable of seeing the larger more nuanced facts of what happened to the breakdown of bi-partisanship. The Republicans said they wanted to defeat Obama at all costs, they said during their debate they would not agree to 10 to 1 advantage, they have used the filibuster more than any other governing body, etc. etc. As Chris said, there is lots and lots of data pointing the Republicans being the party of obstruction, you cannot put that at the feet of Obama, since he merely said he wanted get rid of bi-partisanship. He has tried (again, as Chris pointed out), the Republicans are the ones who have failed us.
Ronald Reagan ... gave amnesty to 3 million immigrants, raised taxes 3 times, tripled the national debt (the man likes 3's), increased the size of government, etc. Ronald Reagan ... wow, what an evil socialist.
Correction ... Reagan raised taxes ELEVEN times! ... not only 3.
