As he and Governor Mitt Romney have done often this campaign season, President Obama spoke with local media affiliates yesterday. In an interview with New Hampshire's WMUR-TV, the President was asked whether it's unpatriotic for someone to have a Swiss bank account. His answer? If you are running for president, it's important "that the American people know who you are and what you've done and that you're an open book." The President continued, "that's been true of every presidential candidate dating back to Mr. Romney's father."
The President appears to be referring to the tactic of attacking Governor Romney's reported offshore holdings. It's a message Democrats have pushed before, and which re-emerged this past weekend after Friday's disappointing jobs numbers (some reports suggest the rhetoric shift was designed to avoid emphasizing the jobs report, which is seen as politically damaging for the President).
This morning, one of the voices leading the charge against Romney, DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, will join NOW to explain the strategy. One question that comes to mind: With Team Romney raising far more than Team Obama for the second month in a row, is it a winning strategy? OK you and your buddies missed an important POINT in the Romney 'speech' on voter id. WHERE? IN WHICH STATE? are voter ids FREE? He said 'you can get one FREE from your state...BS. A driver's license costs $25 and a state ID is $20...and then you have to travel to a DMV that is in fact OPEN on your day off to get it!
Regarding the Voter ID stuff...and, well, regarding required docs...I just think if the laws aren't going to go away anytime soon, at the very least, do something new with birth certificates. So many things require birth certificates but who in their right mind is going to carry something that needs to be folded up at least twice in their wallets? The certificates are anything but portable, why not just make cards? And have it so you don't need to wait 4-6 weeks after applying to get them, or have only one office in the entire STATE issue them? Backwards, backwards...
Can't wait to see Romney speak at the NAACP event. If he starts rapping tho, it's a wrap. Either way something funny's gonna happen there I can feel it.
