Get rid of these stupid guns!!! There is absolutely NO reason a person needs a glock holding 30 rounds (potentially killing 30 people) over the old clips, which only a few years ago were allowed to hold 12 rounds! This is stupid! And any gun owner who thinks giving just an inch means they'll be forced to give a mile ... doesn't realize the mile (and more!) they've already taken! MANY more deaths and injury happen by suicide, psycho or accident than happen from people living in fear and thinking angry black men are coming to rob their homes on a nightly basis! I am so sick of this idiocy and cowardly living in fear mentality, which Fox, Limbaugh, etc. preach every day!!!
I'm a liberal Democrat and a former Republican. There is no way that I will submit my gun. I don't own any automatic weapons. We don't need automatic weapons for sports but there is no way that I will be without a gun. That is one of our basic rights. I know people who have gotten killed without guns that if those victims would have had a gun they would still be alive today. So, no way Jose. A otro perro con ese hueso. ( Go to another dog with that bone, I wont eat it). "From my dead cold hands".
"From your dead cold hands" ... is the point! Again, most people are killed by disturbed people like today, or by accident, than those who live by defending themselves with guns ... period! You can have your gun ... no one is coming for it ... but how about that gun only holding 6 rounds instead of 30?! That way, you get what you want, and the rest of us are safer!
I agree 100%. The tragedy in Colorado was senseless and disgusting. However, there are literally millions of good, decent Americans who own lots of guns and are not killing people at all. I look to Duck Dynasty as an example. The patriarch of the Robertson clan owns and used the same AR-15 rifle to kill the beavers that chewed wholes in their levee.
Moreover, it is worth mentioning that Mr. Holmes would have cleared any background check in relation to purchasing rifles and handguns. Colorado is not New York City. Upstate New York is not New York City. Mountain lions and bears roam the terrain. In short, one may find himself in need of a gun for many justifiable reasons.
The cliche that guns do not kill people, is quite true. We are a nation in which gun rights are as sacrosanct as the First Amendment. I do not like our knee-jerk reactions to these tragedies.
Perhaps instead of focusing on guns, we need to focus on healthcare as it relates to mental health?
And I am a Progressive Democrat, who truly believes in the United States Constitution and its Bill of Rights.
alex, luv ya, but everyone is missing the point. The point is income inequality and NOT gun control. Canada and USA have the same level of gun ownership. But Canada has almost no gun violence. The main reason - income inequality. The larger the gap between rich and poor, the more violence in a society. Canada has better health care than USA. Avg Canadian is wealthier than avg USA. Avg Canadian is much less stressed than USA. Income inequality is the point. BUT, anyone who thinks that owning a gun will allow them to protect themselves against a well-equipped army is both stupid and crazy. Of course SCOTUS is completely wrong about the right to bare (intentional misspelling) arms. Alex --- please get this issue right.
I'm with you db-at-redondo. Right now 1-15% control 93% of the wealth in this country. While 85% share and compete for the 7% remaining. That has to spark violence. Unfortunately it is the poor and middle class who gets affected by this violence. It isn't class warfare but the evidence is clear. The bigger the gap between rich and poor the more violent the world gets.
(Ecclesiastes 8:11) 11 Because sentence against a bad work has not been executed speedily, that is why the heart of the sons of men has become fully set in them to do bad.
He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God. Proverbs 14:31
Mathew 25: 31-46
Canada also has much less gun violence because they live in a less violent society! Have any of you seen Bowling for Columbine? I'm not asking you to like or dislike Michael Moore, I'm talking about when he goes to Canada and shows how their media do not focus on fear fear fear ... as for example, Fox "news" does here in the US! Also, Canada does not allow automatic weapons and guns that can kill many people in one setting! Again ... that is because they live in a much less violent and fear based society than we do here in the US!
This entire situation is tragic and I pray for the victims and their families. That being said, this is more of a question. When the shooter opened the emergency exit door, why didn't an alarm go off indicating that it was open? I was under the assumption that when those doors are opened a silent alarm is set off to inform employees. Just wondering.
Everyone, U R missing the point (even Alex). The first problem is income inequality. USA and Canada have the same level of gun ownership. But, Canada has almost no level of gun violence. It is a statistical fact that the greater the gap between the rich and poor, the more violent the society is. The income gap is FAR smaller in Canada than USA. Avg Canadian is richer than avg American. Canadian health care is better. USA is imply more stressed than avg Canadian. Thus, there is more violence in USA. NRA taught me gun safety and I am grateful to them for that. But no civilian needs an assault rifle to defend themselves against an army. So, get the discussion right by correctly understanding the problem.
Dear Alex and Now panelists and fellow posters: Your President has a "kill list" that he sleeps with- I find the coverage- yrs included, unctious and pathetic- You want to cover this? talk to Mr. Gross of the Brady Group- talk to those who organize against the Stand yr Ground laws- Study non violence and talk about that- expose the criminals like the NRA and its political allies perpetrating the violence-
Have the guts to honor the victims w some truth telling.
Mr. Holmes ='s, in my opinion- political anbd media leaders- it's that simple.
All I have to say is, it's sad this ever happened. RIP those slained, and at least the gunman wasn't enough a coward to kill himself like many other mass murderers have done. They'll be living the consequences of their actions for a very long time.
The man who shot Congresswoman Giffords, the VT shooter, and Mr. Holmes all have one thing in common: mental health issues. Gun control has nothing to do with it at all.
Do not repeal the Affordable Care Act. That is the answer.
