Anti-American protests are sweeping across the Middle East. This map shows the cities where demonstrations have already taken place outside U.S. embassies, or where officials are warning of planned protests.

In the latest issue of Time Magazine, Bobby Ghosh writes about the impact of the Arab Spring, arguing that the "neophyte democracies" that replaced the old dictators "have made the region a more chaotic and unstable place, a place more susceptible than ever to rogue provocateurs.” The fact that in three days these protests now stretch from Northern Africa to Iran shows how quickly "rogue provocateurs" can destabilize the entire region.


There are limits to free speech. It's my understanding that if I were to burn a cross in front of a Bethel AME Church or spray paint a synagogue with a nazi swastika I could be charged with a hate crime. Why is the film posted to the internet that denigrates the Prophet Mohammed not considered a hate crime?
